The following statement can be attributed to Héctor Figueroa, President of 32BJ SEIU and VAMOS4PR steering committee member:

“We are terribly saddened to learn of the untimely death of an important member of the VAMOS4PR family, Angelo Falcón, one of the most fearless and tireless advocates for Puerto Ricans and Latinos in New York.

“As VAMOS4PR steering committee member and padrino, Angelo has been a crucial influence on the work of the group from its origin, both through his uncompromising analysis and deep historical memory, and also through his long-time mentorship of many of us involved in VAMOS4PR’s day to day work. Even as his health faltered, from his corner of Brooklyn he maintained a finger on the pulse on politics here in the states and on the island, and put that knowledge to use. He consistently held public figures’ feet to the fire, and without hesitation – sin pelos en la lengua, as we say -- called out statements or actions that smelled of compromise with a status quo that he saw as harmful to Puerto Ricans, Latinos and other disempowered communities.

“As Puerto Ricans face unprecedented challenges on the island and in the states, we will sorely miss Angelo’s knowledge and creativity, his unerring focus on justice, his relentless sense of humor, and above all his friendship. Our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.”
